Technical SEO that fixes the plumbing

Good content can't rank if Google can't read it. Technical SEO is the work that makes sure every important page can be found, crawled, understood and shown: indexing, redirects, canonical tags, sitemaps, mobile layout, speed and structured data. I find the problems in Search Console and fix them at the source.

What I check

Indexing

Which pages Google has indexed, which it excluded and why, from the Page indexing report.

Redirects

Chains, loops and broken redirects, and old pages that should redirect but don't.

Canonicals and duplicates

Pages competing with each other, and canonical tags pointing the wrong way.

Sitemaps and robots

A sitemap of the pages you want found, and a robots file that doesn't block them.

Mobile and speed

How pages render and perform on a phone, using Lighthouse and real-user data where it exists.

Structured data

Valid markup, errors in Search Console's enhancement reports, and missing opportunities.

Problems I find most often

  • A "discourage search engines" setting left switched on after a site launch
  • The same page reachable at several addresses, with and without www or a trailing slash
  • Old pages from a previous site returning errors instead of redirecting
  • Sitemaps listing pages that redirect, don't exist or are set to noindex
  • Product filters creating thousands of near-identical pages
  • Huge images and unused scripts slowing every page on mobile

How I work

I start with your Search Console data, because it shows what Google itself sees, then crawl the site the way Google would to find what Search Console doesn't report. Each problem goes on a list with its impact and the fix, most important first, so you know what you're paying for.

After fixing, I use Search Console's validation where it exists and watch the reports until Google has recrawled. Technical SEO is one part of the wider SEO work; for moves between domains or platforms, see website migration.

Questions about technical SEO

What does a technical SEO check cover?

Whether Google can find, crawl and index your pages; whether redirects, canonicals and sitemaps are right; whether pages work on phones and load quickly; and whether structured data is valid. I use Search Console's own reports alongside a crawl of the site.

Do I need technical SEO for a small site?

Small sites have fewer problems, but the ones they have can be serious: a page accidentally set to noindex, a redirect loop, the whole site blocked in robots.txt after a redesign. A check once in a while, and after every big change, catches them.

Can you fix the problems or only report them?

Both. On sites I can edit, I fix them myself. On platforms where I can't, I write exactly what needs changing for whoever can, and check afterwards that it worked.

Is something stopping Google from reading your site?

Send me your website, and access to Search Console if you have it. I'll tell you what's blocking Google and how I'd fix it.
